Under The Sea

Book Fair Comes to Colby Middle School

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives. It will be open in the Art Room before school, during lunch and after school March 2-5, and during Parent/Teacher Conferences on March 5.

Our Scholastic Book is part of an exciting reading event that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.

If you’re all booked up during the book fair (or just want to keep shopping), be sure to visit the book fair online at The online Book Fair is open February 23-March 13. You will find an expanded selection of books for all ages, Spanish titles, series sets, and may create wish lists and eCards to share. All orders ship to school FREE and each purchase benefits our school.

What is Scrip?

The Middle School is pleased to share some exciting news about a new fundraising program for our school.  It's called "scrip" and it's the fundraising program that works while you shop.  Scrip is simply a word that means "substitute money"- in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers.  They're the same gift certificates that you buy at the store.  Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our school at a discount.

Families buy the certificates at full face value, you can redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference in revenue.  You earn money for school without spending a single additional penny.  Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out.

Scrip is exciting because everyone wins:

  • -The retailer gets cash up front and repeat buisness
  • -You get a powerful fundraising alternatvie that involves no selling
  • -Our school gets a regular source of revenue

The money that is raised thru scrip helps the Middle School in many ways like TRACS trips, various activities, school supplies like books, awards, etc.

To save on paper the Middle School will not be making copies of the Middle School Handbook for each student this year.  The handbook is available on the website or you may request a copy from the Middle School Office.
