Welcome to Colby Elementary School
Hello! My name is Matt Cihlar, I graduated from Sturgeon Bay HS in 1998, and from UW-La Crosse in 2003. I taught phy-ed for 18 years before becoming a principal 5 years ago. My wife Wendy and I have two children, ages 19 and 17. They both aspire to be educators in the future. My hobbies include working out, running, golfing, being outside, traveling and enjoying our cabin up north.
Colby Elementary School accommodates approximately 250 students, with average class sizes from 18-20.
My passion is supporting teachers and families and helping kids to make the community a better place. The heart of what’s important is building relationships. I am proud to be part of a team that cares about kids, and is always looking for ways to help students be successful and grow to be the best versions of themselves.
We are grateful to the community for passing the $24 million dollar referendum and we are super excited to have the 4th grade returning to the elementary school in the fall of 2026. New spaces will greatly help students grow and learn. The cafeteria layout will provide flexibility for dining, additional gym space and small group activities.
My door is always open. Contact me anytime to arrange a welcome tour, so you can observe the wonderful things happening here. I encourage everyone to attend our open house scheduled in the future.
